The 25 Best Chinese Restaurants in Los Angeles Eater LA

spicy house

Here now, are 25 of the essential Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles. Chef Kris Yenbamroong’s northern Thai crispy rice salad — made with soured pork, raw ginger, and a generous smattering of bird’s eye chiles — is not for the faint of heart. My parents immigrated to the US from Greece, so a love for octopus is ingrained in me. A great plate can immediately transport me back to childhood summer days spent in tavernas overlooking the Aegean Sea, our table covered in a seafood feast. Enzo Cecconi opened the first location in 1978, bringing "fresh pasta, beef carpaccio, tiramisu, and Bellini cocktails" to the British, according to the restaurant's website.

Jalapeno Chicken

The octopus had a soft texture — no easy feat with such a tricky protein. But the meat was so charred on the outside that it completely overwhelmed the flavor. My drink had a lovely sunny hue that brightened up the very cloudy LA day, with flavors to match. It was a sweet and zingy drink, and the ginger candy garnish was a fun touch. One of the highlights of our lunch was the extremely kind waiter, who highly recommended we get a pizza — which ended up being the best dish of the day.

Beef with Vegetables

Other popular dishes include the cold eggplant salad, lamb tenderloin skewer, and sweet pork pita. Ji Rong is a San Gabriel Valley staple that specializes in traditional Peking duck, which comes with thin pancakes, shredded green onion, julienned cucumber, and hoisin sauce. The duck skin is sliced thinly over a layer of fatty and tender duck meat. The bones are all removed, making it easy for diners to make their own wraps. There are no walk-ins for Peking duck; make sure to call ahead and reserve a duck at least an hour and a half to two hours ahead. Although the Peking duck is the star dish, mapo tofu, stewed pork belly, kung pao chicken, and lamb skewers are also standout options.

Sliced Fish in Szechuan Sauce

Visit the Thai vendors outside of Lax-C — an emporium for Thai ingredients in Chinatown — for a fabulous rendition of julienned green papaya salad with dried shrimp and an unbeatable spicy dressing. This two-year-old Inglewood restaurant fits the bill for anyone craving traditional Jamaican fare. While the atmosphere was as lovely as the service, and we didn't have to wait long for our meal — all important factors in a good "power lunch" — the food just didn't live up to the hype. While it might have been power lunch hour, few people were in suits or business casual. Two very glamorous older women — perfectly coiffed hair, gold jewelry, Jackie O sunglasses — sat across from us.

Steamed Chicken Dumplings (

Standout dishes — including chef Tian’s famed Peking duck which requires reservations two days in advance — are served in a room that feels like a traditional Chinese courtyard from the Qing Dynasty. Red 99 Grill Bistro specializes in Shanghainese cuisine but also has a handful of Sichuan- and Hunan-style dishes on the menu. The signature dish is the red braised pork belly prepared with soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, and other spices; the gelatinous skin and fat melt easily in your mouth.

We now live in a hybrid world, but the "power lunch" is due for a comeback. Kim Ky has been an institution in the San Gabriel Valley for decades, with multiple restaurants spanning even to Orange County. This popular Chiu Chow restaurant boasts a menu that rivals the Cheesecake Factory’s. But real heat-seekers know to ask for the inelegantly named Ringburner, with plenty of chile flakes and jalapenos on top.

Nature Pagoda is a tiny mom-and-pop that has been around since the ’90s. The entire menu is based on traditional Chinese medicinal principles meant to balance the body for optimal health. The quaint restaurant serves traditional herbal teas and medicinal soups, but the star is clay pot rice (bao zai fan), a Hong Kong specialty. The rice at the bottom of the clay pot is crispy, while the interior rice is moist and steamed with ingredients like mushrooms, bamboo shoots, Chinese sausage, pork ribs, and salted fish with ground pork and tofu. There’s an art to making irresistibly spicy food — a skillful layering of flavors that coaxes the very best from chiles and spices. This careful balance of heat enhances every ingredient surrounding it without ever dominating the plate or overwhelming the palate.

Auntie Kitchen

There are three locations, and the newest in San Gabriel offers the most extensive menu of the three. Though it’s known for its Cantonese barbecue, Auntie Kitchen even offers the Hainan chicken rice. That dish comes with complimentary soup, and portions are generous while prices remain reasonable. Xiaolongkan, a well-known Sichuan hot pot chain in China, making in the United States courtesy of the restaurateurs affiliated with Chengdu Taste and Mian.

Sweet & Sour Chicken

Tam’s Noodle House opened during the pandemic selling only frozen Hong Kong-style wontons and dumplings. All the noodles and dumplings are made in-house, including three varieties of egg noodles (wonton-style egg noodles, rice noodles, and flat egg noodles). It uses quality seasonal ingredients, many of which are seafood, and offers plenty of vegetarian dishes. The menu is large and filled with specialties that rotate regularly. During lunch, it offers a la carte items and bento specials that come with soup.

Don’t forget to finish the meal with the osmanthus sweet soup with black sesame dumplings for dessert. Colette offers a variety of rare and unadvertised dishes, including stir-fried lobster sticky rice, lamb stew, and winter melon soup. Beloved dishes like beef chow fun, cola-glazed chicken wings, and salmon carpaccio are also on the menu. Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee is a Guangzhou-based chain specializing in beef brisket noodle soup as well as other Cantonese fare. Those willing to look beyond the surface will be rewarded with a fantastic meal.

Sichuan cuisine has taken the San Gabriel Valley by storm in recent years, but those in the know still head to Hunan Chilli King when they can for lots (and lots) of spice. The name delivers on its premise, with diced fresh chilis living somewhere between ‘garnish’ and ‘the whole meal’ on chopped and sautéed chicken dishes and more. For boneless chicken nuggets fried to a wonderful crisp and fragrant with Sichuan peppercorns, it doesn’t get any better than the Chongqing fried chicken at Xiang La Hui. It’s amazing how the mountain of fried chicken shrinks to a lowly pile of dried chiles and peppercorns in almost no time.

There’s also a slew of offal selections like chicken gizzard, heart, and even bull penis on a skewer. All skewers are accompanied by both spicy and non-spicy powders and sauces. Expect fine dining plus a show, as diners are treated to something like a traditional Beijing opera performance. Hot pots feature premium ingredients like imported fresh seafood and wagyu beef.

Must-order dishes include the hand-shredded chicken and the salt and pepper wings lightly fried with garlic, chopped onion, and peppers. Dun Huang pulls eight different shapes of noodles, from extra-thin angel hair to extra-wide belts. Don’t forget to order a deep-fried flatbread marinated in cumin, Sichuan peppercorn, and dry chile oil.

Cecconi's cavatelli lamb ragù is $14 cheaper, but it's still a very pricey dish, and the flavors just didn't warrant the expense, in my experience. The cavatelli was chewy, overcooked, and only coated with a light layer of the ragù. Served alongside peppadew peppers, which added a kick of heat, the octopus was begging for something to brighten up the plate — whether it be a cooling sauce or a bigger splash of acidity. I had heard there was a secret Cecconi's burger, but our waiter revealed it only makes special appearances (usually during happy hour). I also inquired about the $26 "Piatto Unico" on the menu, which we learned is a lunchtime special that changes weekly and always features a protein, side, and salad. The phrase "power lunch" can bring to mind a vision of stuffy and dated interiors, but I loved the leather turquoise chairs and black-and-white striped floor in Cecconi's dining room.

Bungalow Design: Guide to Getting Single Storey Living Right

In the early 1900s, Sears made the style’s popularity official by offering pre-cut bungalow kits similar to those they offered for Craftsman homes. When transplants come to Los Angeles with stars in their eyes, community is rarely what they’re after. But some still find it in the city’s dwindling numbers of bungalow courts. These multi-family structures took an already popular design, the California bungalow, and made it more affordable.

Plan: #142-1041

The living room is adorned with two uniquely shaped modular sofas, a bench and a mid-century-style low coffee table. Place them in a way to encourage interaction and provide a sense of cosiness. The room also has a wall-mounted TV unit below the electric fireplace.

The Milwaukee bungalow home features a gable perpendicular to the street, on the side of the house (as pictured above). In a Chicago bungalow, on the other hand, the gable is facing the street. The home is also narrow, which is characteristic of midwestern bungalows, and features a large open porch.

And bringing them up to modern codes and standards is a costly affair. Due to the working class nature of the typical bungalow court resident, the structures were often built close to public transportation stops. For lower and middle class Angelenos, the bungalow court was a rare opportunity to rent or, in some cases, own quality, affordable housing. And for beginning investors, bungalow courts were a means of creating multi-family housing on a single plot of land without the lofty expenses of an apartment complex. The differentiating features of the California bungalow stand in contrast to the lavish varieties fashioned by the renowned Greene brothers, Charles and Henry.

Plan: #142-1054

Because of the wide range of requirements throughout states and municipalities, it is possible that the plans may not have all of the information required by your building department. If this is the case, we recommend hiring a local design professional or engineer who can assist bringing the plans up to your local building code. Then main living, kitchen, family, dining zones could then be set into the sloping site at lower level, with access to the garden, resulting in a striking two-storey appearance at the rear. The traditional log cabin is a single storey form that lends itself well to certain locations, particularly more secluded sites close to woodland and/or water. There are several log cabin suppliers in the UK, mostly importing kits from the US, Canada and Scandinavia.

Types Of Barns (Construction & Roof Designs)

The popularity of the California bungalow, and by extension the bungalow court, was already waning by the early 1930s. But this decline was rapidly hastened in 1934 when Los Angeles passed a law that effectively banned the bungalow court. Under the new law, all new residential properties needed to provide one dedicated parking spot per housing unit.

If you love the charm of Craftsman house plans and are working with a small lot, a bungalow house plan might be your best bet. Bungalow floor plan designs are typically simple, compact and longer than they are wide. Also, like their Craftsman cousin, bungalow house designs tend to sport cute curb appeal by way of a wide front porch (or stoop) supported by tapered or paired columns and low-slung rooflines. Ideal for small urban or narrow lots, these small home plan designs (or "small-ish") are usually one or one-and-a-half stories, and (generally) budget-friendly.

Before we get into LA’s love affair with the bungalow court, we need to look at its precursors. That’s because the bungalow court was simply an iteration of an evolving style that fit under the generous bungalow umbrella. Other designs that easily fit the bungalow designation included Prairie homes (touched on in our Craftsman homes blog) and Spanish Colonial homes (including Mission Revival designs). Some nod to other styles including English Tudor, Swiss Chalet, Japanese—even, anachronistically, Colonial Revival.

These resorts offered all-inclusive amenities and camp-like activities along with the bungalow lodgings. Since the 1980s, the American bungalow has come back stronger than ever as part of the Arts & Crafts Revival. Thousands of bungalows have been snatched up to be interpreted in a manner often beyond the tastes and budgets of the original owners. By submitting this form, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of use. The layout is reversed and all the writing is corrected so you can read the writing.

The overall architectural expression is a low profile with some prominent features. There is no way you wouldn’t be able to easily differentiate one – Cottage homes are two-story, unlike the Bungalow homes which are low-height. The best layout for a bungalow will depend on individual preferences and needs, but some fundamental design principles can help create a functional and comfortable space. Most concrete block (CMU) homes have 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 exterior walls on the 2nd story. Therefore, despite still being popular with Angelenos seeking a sense of community, the remaining bungalow courts will likely continue to be razed in favor of structures that offer more units. Some proponents of development have suggested returning to the bungalow court model to address LA’s need for new housing.

Corridors spanning 6ft wide is also recommended, and level thresholds are a given. You could bring light in from above by way of ceiling glazing and rooflights, but this type of feature often works best as an enhancement rather than a single source of light. When considering bungalow design you top priority should be to ensure clear separation between the living areas and sleeping areas — no one wants to be sleeping right next to a noisy kitchen. Thanks to their affordability, many veterans returning from World War II used their G.I. The American Southwest experienced a population explosion following World War II, so you'll find many bungalows in states like Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and parts of Southern California today.

Chinese Restaurant Online Order Lafayette LA

Southern Mini Town is a Shanghainese restaurant that only has a few tables. The sheng jian bao (pan-fried pork soup dumplings) are fluffy and juicy. Other must-order dishes include winter melon soup, Chinese okra with salted duck egg, pan-fried Shanghai rice cakes, Shanghainese eggplant, pork kidney, and clam stew egg custard. The pork hock is a popular dish that falls off the bone and the fried fish with seaweed powder should not be missed.

Sweet & Sour Chicken

While the boiled fish with green pepper sauce is more challenging when it comes to pure heat, the lamb’s more complex profile gives it a slight edge. Northern Thai cuisine is the specialty at this East Hollywood gem and the dish to get is the nam prik num — a smoky dip made from roasted chiles. To balance the flavors and heat, dig into plenty of sticky rice and fresh vegetable crudites along with it.

Kung Pao Pork

From Sichuan-style fried chicken to a one-of-a-kind Thai-American hamburger and Korean rice cakes, here now are the 17 spiciest dishes in Los Angeles. Lan Noodle is a powerhouse for Lanzhou-style noodles and each bowl is made to order. Customers can watch the noodle master pull eight different shapes, while throwing the strands over their shoulder and into a pot of boiling water. Each type of noodle requires a special kind of wheat flour to get the perfect QQ (chewy) texture.

Combination Wonton Soup

Taste your way through our delicious and handcrafted menu, carefully curated with your taste buds in mind. We know that you’ll find yourself on an exciting culinary journey at Spicy House, and we invite you to come back for more. Los Feliz tavern Ye Rustic Inn is rightfully famous for its Buffalo wings — crispy, bone-in morsels that somehow taste even better in the well-worn and comfy setting. For tears of joy and pain, order the wings “suicide level” along with an extra pitcher of beer. There are few things better than tender chunks of carnitas sandwiched between soft bollilo bread. But when your torta is drenched in a capsicum-laden chile arbol salsa, you have the sort of sandwich that turns your nose into a faucet, all while keeping you begging for more.

Eggplant Garlic Sauce

There’s a sauce-making station and an area stocked with snacks, desserts, and fruits. Notably, the buffet features all-you-can-eat offerings such as chicken feet, chips, sweet porridge, sweet jelly, glutinous rice balls, and even snow fungus. Chengdu Taste’s signature offering carefully balances heat and spice. The toothpick-speared bits of fatty lamb come dusted in a combination of cumin and chiles with plenty of fresh cilantro too.

Chicken Panang Curry

Chef Tony Dim Sum by Tony He, the culinary talent behind the acclaimed Sea Harbour restaurant in Rosemead (as well as some iconic places in Vancouver), offers a contemporary dim sum experience. Chef Tony blends traditional Cantonese favorites with modern interpretations. Many dishes feature ingredients like freshly shaved black truffles and gold leaf accents. Though one can customize the level of spice for the Korean rice cakes (mild, original, and "challenge"), the mild is hot enough to render both sweat and tears. Toppings like mozzarella cheese and fried veggies can help mitigate the heat, but be sure to order a cooling smoothie for good measure.

Auntie Kitchen also serves roast pork, barbecue pork, roast duck, and soy sauce chicken. Jiang Nan Spring specializes in Zhejiang cuisine made with lots of seafood and seasonal ingredients. Jiang Nan translates to “south of the river” and refers to the areas south of the Yangtze River, including Shanghai. One of the most unique items on the menu is the traditional Chinese dish beggar’s chicken.

Pork Chow Mein

Mr. Chopsticks has been a mainstay in the area for over three decades and is one of a handful of Cantonese restaurants that still provide free soup at the start of the meal. The lunch menu includes 40 affordable and amply portioned specials, like beef chow fun, kung pao shrimp, chicken wings, and salt and pepper shrimp. Given 24-hour advance notice, Mr. Chopsticks whips up its famous seafood winter melon soup that’s made from scratch using ingredients from the restaurant’s garden; the soup serves up to 15 people. Other popular dishes include Shanghainese eel, loofa, drunken chicken, Shanghainese stir-fried rice cake with crab, and green onion scallion noodles. Red 99 also makes one of the best renditions of jiuniang yuan zi, a subtly sweet and boozy dessert soup with fermented glutinous rice, dried osmanthus flower, and chewy glutinous black sesame rice balls.

Spicy Chili Pork Chop

The restaurant sources wagyu from its own cattle farm and ships a whole cow daily to ensure the freshest sashimi, meatballs, and more. Fresh chunks of lobster meat are sliced and placed on top of a fruit bed. Although Liu is known for her Sichuan cuisine, 19 Town focuses on contemporary Chinese cuisine.

For dinner, it offers exquisite banquet-style meals including the showstopping lobster salad. After running a successful restaurant in China and working at Panda Restaurant Group in Los Angeles, Tony Xu opened Alhambra’s Chengdu Taste in 2013. Angelenos quickly took notice of the restaurant’s fiery Sichuan cooking. There’s an additional location in Rowland Heights for those who reside further east.

There’s a fun fusion dish called gnocchi con le cozze, which blends Chinese pickled-pepper sour and spicy sauce with mussels and pasta. The mapo tofu comes covered in cheese in a fondue dip where pieces of bread are pulled through a mozzarella and tofu mixture. Their rendition of orange chicken is made their own with Sichuan touches. The flaming pork jowl is a popular dish that servers set on fire at the table with potent 151-proof rum, and cocktails are also extremely innovative. Bistro Na’s, which opened in Temple City in 2016, is the first U.S. restaurant to serve Chinese imperial cuisine. The restaurant’s recipes were originally reserved for royalty and have been passed down through generations of chefs who worked in the imperial kitchen.

I've always had a deep love for pasta, so I'm very good at convincing myself to shell out for a pricey dish on special occasions. Swing in for the chicken lollipops seasoned with nearly two dozen spices and served with a peppy house-made chutney. Ask for the spice level that includes ghost pepper for seriously hot wings. For a particular pop, try the deviled beef laced with both dried and fresh chiles, plus curry leaves and a bracing hit of lime.

They added a chic touch alongside the old-school chandeliers and dark wood paneling. A classic Italian restaurant off West Hollywood's famous Melrose Avenue, Cecconi's frequently appears on lists for the "top power lunch spots" and has been known to attract everyone from Beyoncé to Prince Harry. Los Angeles’s tremendous Chinese food scene keeps getting better and better.

In mid-November, LA County officials mandated the closure of outdoor dining; restaurants on this list continue to offer takeout and/or delivery only. Please check the Los Angeles Public Health website for the latest guidance on visiting restaurants. I grew up next to a wood-oven pizza restaurant that my family would visit weekly, and Cecconi's wood-fired spicy salami pie captured my nostalgia. Each floppy slice had a satisfyingly smoky and charred bottom, adding some great texture. The spicy salami and perfectly cooked mushrooms were a match made in heaven, and the tomato sauce was delicious. Cecconi's octopus unfortunately didn't live up to those memories, nor did it come close to some fantastic plates I've had on recent trips to Mexico (Ziggy's octopus in Tulum, I will never forget you).

I've lived in LA for the past few years but had never dined at Cecconi's. I was surprised when the hostess asked for my number, wondering if we should've made a reservation. There was ample seating throughout the airy space, including a nearly empty tented dining area in front of the entrance.

Still, 37 “no” votes, while a break from Washington’s ironclad support for the Jewish state, fell short of the opposition bloc progressives had hoped to muster. Thirty-nine Democrats had voted “no” on Friday on the rule to allow the foreign aid package to come to the House floor, a target that progressives just missed on Saturday on the Israel bill. Fourteen of those Democrats voted on Saturday in favor of aid to Israel, while 12 Democrats who voted to allow the package on the floor on Friday then cast votes against the funding itself. While all Democrats voted in favor of aid to Ukraine and all but Ms. Tlaib supported funding to Taiwan, 37 left-leaning Democrats defected to vote against the Israel aid bill. They said before the vote that they opposed unfettered aid to Israel that could be used in its offensive in Gaza.

The opposition to the Israel aid represented a minority of Democrats, but reflected the deep resistance to unconditional aid and the divisions in the party on Gaza. Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland represented a notable new “no” vote among Democrats, and other standouts included Representatives Donald S. Beyer Jr. of Virginia, Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and John Garamendi of California. Paisley in particular became popular due to the Beatles’ association with the pattern, along with its close association with psychedelia. As we mentioned earlier, new technologies meant that designers had a lot more control when it came to lettering. Type artists moved away from the rigid typographic styles that reigned in the ‘50s and early ‘60s and began experimenting with spacing and hand-drawn letterforms.

Scher's trailblazing work opened the doors for more postmodern designers like David Carson, who upended conventions with his grungy, chaotic designs. She paved the way for a more iconoclastic, irreverent sensibility, emphasising visual wit, historical reference, and deconstructed layouts. Scher proved that pushing boundaries and breaking rules could yield innovative design solutions that engage audiences unexpectedly.

The influence of 1970s logos continues in contemporary branding and design. His covers for Factory Records bands like Joy Division and New Order visually defined the Manchester post-punk scene.

1970s graphic design

The Coca-Cola Logo: Evolution of a Classic

Scher catapulted onto the design scene in the 1970s and 80s through her innovative work at CBS Records and other major corporations. She began bucking modernist traditions of order and simplicity by incorporating irreverent visual puns, historical references, and absurd juxtapositions into her designs. Her maximalist style was bold, complex, and unapologetically chaotic at times. Over the decades, the “I ♥ NY” logo transcended its original purpose, evolving into a globally recognised symbol of New York City.

Typography was often combined with photography to create striking graphics. Everything was bold and bright, with elements such as 3D styles and large lettering. Contemporary brands often draw inspiration from that era's design elements and principles. From colour palettes to typography, the 1970s continue to shape how brands present themselves, bridging the past and the present. The colour palette of 1970s logos was characterised by earthy tones such as browns and oranges.

The queer history of art

The Nike Swoosh has become one of the world's most iconic and recognisable logos, but its origins stem from humble beginnings in 1971. That year, Phil Knight, founder of Blue Ribbon Sports – the company that would later become Nike, Inc. – was seeking a design for a new brand logo. He reached out to Carolyn Davidson, then a graphic design student at Portland State University. Film and television also saw massive growth, marked by the success of high-concept blockbusters like Star Wars and shows like Charlie's Angels.

The logo's ubiquity on t-shirts, hats, posters, and more reflects Glaser's design's timeless, universal appeal. His use of colour, composition, symbolism, and typography combined to create an image that immediately conveys meaning and emotion to viewers worldwide. The bell bottoms of the 1970s originated from a nautical design but took on an exaggerated flare.

Postmodernist design began to emerge in the 1970s, with designers embracing historical styles that had been rejected. Older styles were adopted and designers experimented with them, making them more exaggerated and fun. Connected to the use of photography in 1970s design was the use of famous faces to promote products. As real people were models in advertisements more, it made sense to have well-known names and faces as the face of a brand. The retro-futuristic visual language of the 70s, characterised by chrome/metal textures, vibrant neon colours, and Space Age motifs, has profoundly impacted contemporary logo and branding work. Designers today integrate and reinterpret these elements into fresh, innovative identities that feel both modern and retro.

An influx of homebuyers is looking to purchase homes within the city limits, which is driving up home prices and ensuring that homes sell almost as quickly as they are listed on the market. Home prices have climbed consistently higher throughout the last year, so it is expected that values will continue to rise in the city.

Putman said the architect does not design much anymore, but she believes this is one of his greatest homes.

All sales listings are obtained from public records available at the Onondaga County Clerk’s office. Twenty-five Republicans voted against the fourth bill, which included measures that could lead to a ban on TikTok in the United States and that would redirect funds from seized Russian assets to help aid Ukraine. Democrats put up a big vote — 174 — in favor of this bill, which was intended to sweeten the overall package for conservatives.

Los Angeles is one of the largest metropolitan cities in the country and boasts a population of nearly 4 million people. While there're several major highways that cut through the heart of the city that suburb commuters use, the community is not known for its premium traffic flow patterns. Instead of driving to other surrounding areas, residents often utilize the public transportation system in Los Angeles.

Ultimate Guide to last-minute cruise deals

royal caribbean book a cruise

When considering one of the cruises out of Port Canaveral, plan extra time before and after your sailing to soak up all the fun that the area has to offer. There's so much to do in Orlando that you could stay for several days and never get bored — music to your ears if you're traveling with children. One of the best things about Orlando cruises is that you have your choice of theme parks to round out your vacation. They're expansive and immersive escapes into playful worlds, not unlike a great cruise. I love tacking on an extra day or two at an Orlando theme park, usually before my cruise departs. I always appreciate the days of racking up thousands of steps traversing a theme park before boarding a cruise, where I know I'll be able to lounge on a deck or relax in a hot tub.

What Kind of Royal Caribbean Cruise Deals Can You Expect to Find?

Another consideration is not all travel agents have the same experience, knowledge, or abilities. Some agents might only be working part time and/or brand new to the industry. Certainly travel agents are just as able to make a mistake as someone booking on their own directly with the line.

Planning a cruise? Start here:

This could be the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, which offers 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on travel and dining (excluding the annual $300 travel credit). There's also the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, which offers 2 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on travel (and 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on dining). The good news is these bonuses are in addition to whatever perks you already would be getting for booking another trip as a result of your Crown & Anchor Society status. If you normally use a travel agent to book your cruises, don't worry about not being able to work with them. Your travel agent will get full credit when you book another sailing while on board a Royal Caribbean ship and can take over the booking later. Like many cruise lines these days, Royal Caribbean often offers its best pricing for any given cruise at the moment the sailing opens for booking.

The ultimate guide to Royal Caribbean cruise ships and itineraries

We recommend working with a good travel agency that has been recommended by a trusted source for providing good service and helpful advice. Whether you are a new cruiser or experienced, having someone who knows their stuff and can work on your behalf to troubleshoot any problems you encounter is worth any amount of onboard credit. When you choose where to book your cruise, you want to balance the service you get with the incentives they offer.

What happens if there's a price drop

There's also a stop in Bermuda, home to pink-sand beaches and rum swizzles. If you’re lucky enough to find a cheap last-minute cruise deal, you can have a truly amazing cruise experience on a budget. Saving money on cruise fare can mean splurging on extras like spa treatments, drink packages, or even a higher category stateroom. While last-minute cruise fares can lead to some amazing savings, these savings can sometimes be negated by last-minute airfare prices. A plane ticket that would otherwise cost $200 when booked months in advance can increase dramatically when booking at the last minute.

Many Royal Caribbean cruises depart in the afternoon, so it might seem fine to fly to a port on the morning of departure. If you're delayed in your arrival at the port, the ship will not wait for you. As is the case for resorts on land, the floating resorts that are Royal Caribbean ships can be significantly less expensive during the "offseason" travel months of September, October and November. If you plan to purchase professional photos taken by Royal Caribbean’s photographers, a photo package will offer a better deal than purchasing each picture individually.

By adding a day or two on either side of this window (whether paid or unpaid), you can give yourself a vacation of up to a week in length, even though you're only taking off a few days. This can be valuable if there's a limit to the number of days you can take off at any one time. Foodies will delight in fresh, authentic Caribbean dishes on this itinerary to the Western Caribbean and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Wonder of the Seas®. In Cozumel, Mexico you'll find lunch specialties featuring locally caught seafood, often grouper and red snapper fried on a plate with rice and a vibrant salad.

ToursByLocals has staff on hand around-the-clock to respond to questions, and — for those worried about missing your ship — they offer a return-to-ship guarantee with every tour. Be sure to read through TPG's ultimate guide to maximizing your status in Royal Caribbean's loyalty program to know all of the many perks you'll be able to get depending on how many points you've accumulated. While we're on the topic of sundries, don't forget extra batteries or memory cards for your camera if you are bringing one. This may be the most important piece of cruise advice you'll read in this entire story. Take it to heart, or you may end up missing your ship — something that happens to cruisers more often than you might think.

First time Royal Caribbean cruise tips

Depending on which region you want to visit along with which month of the year you want to cruise, there will be a subset of Royal Caribbean's fleet you can pick from. But before you pick a ship at random, you'll need to think about where you want to go. Cruise ships are deployed to a region of the world for at least a few months at a time. These ships are not just built to be big, rather, they are built to be large enough to house all the really cool adventures that await you. Royal Caribbean has built its ships bigger and bigger to offer more and more to its guests. If you answered yes to any of those, then simply treat the drink package as an upgrade to your cruise and consider it a deal because the package price will likely beat the individual drink price.

Booking at the last minute comes with far fewer stateroom categories than booking in advance, which could leave you disappointed. You’ll also have less choice when it comes to booking a flight schedule and hotel, which can lead to less than ideal scenarios. Prices of cruise addons may be more expensive as well, as you don’t have the ability to book addons far in advance and later cancel and rebook if you see a cheaper price. Booking in advance can actually offer a cheaper (and more flexible) cruising experience due to Royal Caribbean's repricing policy. That being said, it's still possible to find last-minute deals, but you should not expect to always see cheap fares close to departure. If you are hoping to book a balcony, you may find that only interior cabins and suites are available, leaving you to sacrifice on either comfort or budget.

Some jobs might even allow you to shift your hours when you're traveling, getting up early or working late in order to take advantage of time in cruise ports with your family or friends. This can be especially beneficial when you're working around school vacations and taking your own job requirements into consideration. Choosing your destination carefully is also a travel tip that can help your vacation feel more relaxing. Picking an itinerary with more chill time and less sightseeing makes a big difference. In turn, booking a European cruise — with plenty of sightseeing and historical sites to explore — might make you feel accomplished but not any more refreshed than when you left home.

These are the kind of planning steps everyone should engage in close to their booking to ensure they are off to the right start. Inside staterooms are the smallest and offer no view out of your room, but they are also usually the least expensive option. They are basic, but functional and their price is what many guests look at when choosing these.

Whether you’re into record-breaking waterslide thrills, shoreside chill in a private cabana or DJ-spun beats by the bustling swim-up bar — you’ll find it all here. And to level up your lounge game, upgrade your beach day at the exclusive Coco Beach Club®. This is Sea – a cruise suite to recharge between adventures and rest up before another day filled with exploration. In these spacious suites with plenty of spacious living spaces, sumptuous design and flawless attention to detail is just the start of the journey.

But Royal Caribbean is one line that allows passengers to bring their own drinks on ships — albeit in small amounts. It's one way to save money when cruising on a Royal Caribbean ship, as drink prices on the line's vessels can be high. Check-in for Royal Caribbean sailings can open as far as 45 days in advance, and it pays to go through the check-in process as early as you can. That's because early birds in the check-in process have their pick of arrival times at the ship. When sailing on Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class and Quantum-class ships, you also can use the line's online portal or app to pre-book shows in advance. We're talking about the Broadway musicals and ice shows found on these vessels.

Oasis Class ships are giant ships that have long been the standard for what a family vacation is all about. Each of the Oasis class ships has 7 distinct neighborhoods that have their own look and feel. The neighborhood concept makes getting around easier because areas of the ship do not blend into each other.
